Artist talk & book presentation with Sophie Thun
Altstadt (Rupertinum)
Artist talk with Sophie Thun, curator Marijana Schneider, and graphic designer Marie Artaker, held in conjunction with the exhibition Sophie Thun. Between Light and Wall.
Sophie Thun (*1985, Frankfurt/Main, lives and works in Vienna and Berlin) explores the construction of self and the representation of female identity in her self-portraits. Her analog photographs are created through complex techniques such as cutting, multiplying, and layering, which she has perfected in the darkroom. The artist herself is always present in the works—whether through her direct gaze into the camera or the subtle staging of her photographic tools.
In the talk, Sophie Thun and Marie Artaker will provide insights into the creation of the works and the book, as well as their collaborative process. These insights are complemented by Marijana Schneider’s curatorial perspective on the first solo museum exhibition Between Light and Wall at the Museum der Moderne Salzburg.
The book Between Light and Wall is Sophie Thun's second publication with DISTANZ. It presents new works and documents her solo exhibition at the Museum der Moderne Salzburg. With texts by Jule Govrin, Daniel Muzyczuk, Marijana Schneider, and Magdalena Vuković, as well as a foreword by Harald Krejci, the publication offers an in-depth look into Thun’s artistic practice.
