What happens when artists set their own interests in relation to a collection that gathers important critical responses to social realities from the past and present? Nine candidates in the doctoral program in the arts at Mozarteum University have engaged in sometimes direct, sometimes free-ranging dialogues between their research practices and selected aspects of the Generali Foundation Collection.
Dancing with the Lion presents dynamically shifting constellations of the resulting works, which are explicitly conceived as artistic-experimental research ventures. The focus is on historic and contemporary approaches in institutional critique, feminism, reflections on media and technology, decolonization, and the work of memory.
